ONLINE PHYSIOTHERAPY CALGARY DOWNTOWN

WHAT IS ONLINE PHYSIOTHERAPY?

Online Physiotherapy

Online physiotherapy, telerehab or virtual physio all mean access to one of our expert physiotherapists from the comfort of your home or office. The same high-quality physiotherapy care from a computer or mobile phone instead of in the clinic.

HOW DOES AN ONLINE PHYSIOTHERAPY APPOINTMENT DIFFER FROM IN-CLINIC?

Online service is a new way of providing care for us at Avenue Physio but it is not new to physiotherapy. An online assessment will look very similar to an in-clinic assessment with the same results:

  • A clear understanding of your condition
  • A structured treatment plan
  • Collaborative communication, coaching and goal setting

WHAT’S THE PROCESS FOR AN ONLINE PHYSIOTHERPAY SESSION?

STEP 1:
Contact the clinic or email us to set up your appointment. Our Patient Experience Coordinators will book you in with the therapist that is most suited for your needs and condition and help find a time that is convenient for you.
Book Now

STEP 2:
Once you have scheduled a time that is convenient for you we will email the instructions on how to join online.

STEP 3:
30 minutes prior to your appointment time you will be emailed a link from us to allow you to connect with your therapist. All you have to do is click the link.

STEP 4:
Connection to your physiotherapist’s smiling face because of course no masks are required. Then we will use the same process as we would in-clinic implementing the 5 Avenues to better movement.

WHAT ARE OUR PATIENTS SAYING?

“I loved the option to do my physio online with Diane. We were able to connect from my computer to hers so I didn’t need to take any extra time out of my workday to commute to my appointment. It permitted us to maintain the physical distance required to keep everyone safe. Diane was able to easily diagnose what was going on, with a little help from my spouse, and get me on track to a speedy recovery. I also love the physiapp! It sets out my exercises in an easy-to-reference format, with videos to follow. No more pieces of paper hanging around the exercise matt.”

Heather

“During the COVID-19 lockdown, I began virtual physiotherapy sessions with Diane. I couldn’t be more pleased! I was desperate to have my shoulder ready for golf season. Taking me from stiffness and pain to golf-ready, Diane guided me through thorough assessments and the correct posture and movements for my exercises between sessions. The virtual appointment app provided an easy way to connect by video and as a tool to track her exercise recommendations. As well, payments and receipts for coverage through my insurer was simple! I unreservedly support the virtual physio platform – especially with such a caring and experienced professional like Diane to guide you through it.”

Yes it is a viable option!

Many PRE-COVID Studies have shown that online care is as effective for improving a patient’s pain and function for a variety of musculoskeletal conditions.

The University of Queensland has been researching telerehabilitation for 20 years. The research has shown that people value the convenience of online treatment and consider it of equal quality to their usual services, while some even consider it superior.

Not only is online physiotherapy convenient but it is also a safe and effective way to deliver rehabilitation services. Think of all the time you can save by avoiding the commute to the clinic. In addition, due to the public health restrictions related to COVID19 every sniffle or cough will restrict you from coming into the clinic and interfere with the great progress you are making on your movement goals. We can keep everyone safe and still make progress with your goals all in the comfort of your own home. We love to see you exercise at home. It helps us to identify barriers to completing the exercises properly and ensure that you have the correct equipment at home to be successful.

No. While there are many conditions that can be managed just as effectively online as in the clinic like chronic pain, sprains and strains, low back pain and osteoarthritis. Other conditions may require in-person equipment or hands-on assessment and treatments like needles, joint mobilization and manipulation, and shock wave therapy.

The good news is that we will evaluate if we require you to come into the clinic very effectively during an online session through our subjective questions. Some instances where we would need to see you in the clinic are worsening of symptoms, undiagnosed pain, nerve pain and increasing weakness.
